How atheism relies on “special pleading”.

“A wonder it must be that there should be any man found so stupid as to persuade himself that this most beautiful world could be produced by the fortuitous concourse of atoms.”

–John Ray, the English naturalist (1627-1705) considered by many to be the founder of modern biology.

How atheism impersonates science.

How atheism impersonates science.

It is never my desire to frighten readers, but I would be negligent if I failed to warn of an alarming trend which poses a grave threat to the very fabric of our society.  Before reading the following, you may want to take a seat (if you are not already doing so).  The Naked Scientists (website) warned on December 3rd, 2000 that:

“The number of Elvis Presley impersonators has reached an all-time record high – there are now at ...

Do Christ’s divinity and resurrection defy common sense?

Do Christ’s divinity and resurrection defy common sense?

“The ghostly presence of virtual particles defies rational common sense and is non-intuitive for those unacquainted with physics.  Religious belief in God, and Christian belief that God became Man around two thousand years ago, may seem strange to common-sense thinking.  But when the most elementary physical things behave in this way, we should be prepared to accept that the deepest aspects of our existence go beyond our common-sense intuitions.”

–Nobel Prize winning physicist Tony Hewish as ...

Why calling theism “primitive superstition” shows primitive understanding.

Why calling theism “primitive superstition” shows primitive understanding.

“In the history of science, ever since the famous trial of Galileo, it has repeatedly been claimed that scientific truth cannot be reconciled with the religious interpretation of the world. Although I am now convinced that scientific truth is unassailable in its own field, I have never found it possible to dismiss the content of religious thinking as simply part of an outmoded phase in the consciousness of mankind, a part we shall have to give ...

Why believing precedes knowing…and EVERYONE has a faith.

Why believing precedes knowing…and EVERYONE has a faith.

Being an atheist must be truly frustrating.  As the above cartoon depicts, struggling to talk reason into all of the obstinate faith-heads, who stubbornly insist on holding beliefs that are not solely the result of scientific inquiry, is surely exhausting.  But the atheist who is thus frustrated would be well advised to just give up trying to talk sense into such people…because he is himself a faith-head.

Many atheists would have you believe that they hold no beliefs which are not ...

Why trying to explain away God with science is an ERROR

Why trying to explain away God with science is an ERROR

In order to please my readers, I have made the bold decision to begin this essay in an utterly groundbreaking fashion…by providing a surprise bonus feature (that will, at first, seem unrelated to the topic of this essay):  I will now explain the mystery of the JFK assassination.  The decades of waiting are finally over.  Sit tight…here it goes:

The ignition of a powder mixture consisting of the chemicals sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter caused a rapid expansion of gasses which, consistent ...

Why God? Why not just plain luck?

Why God? Why not just plain luck?

Former major league baseball player and manager Yogi Berra is perhaps even more famous for his wise sayings than for his baseball career:  “If you come to a fork in the road, take it!,” and “Always go to other people’s funerals, or else they won’t come to yours,” and “Baseball is 90% mental, and the other half is physical.”  And much like Yogi Berra’s sayings, atheistic explanations are often grounded in absurdities, although less obvious and less humorous.

One very prominent ...

Why atheism is self-defeating.

Why atheism is self-defeating.

Whoever it was that first said, “The hardest part of my job is getting other people to do my job for me” apparently didn’t have the job of refuting naturalism, which is the belief (upon which atheism is based) that the natural world is self-existent, and therefore does not require an intelligent cause (God).  This is because naturalism is a self-defeating belief system.  By creating this self-defeating belief system, naturalists have left little work for the theist to do, other ...

The God of the Gaps: Why God and science are not competing explanations.

.

“The common belief that… the actual relations between religion and science over the last few centuries have been marked by deep and enduring hostility… is not only historically inaccurate, but actually a caricature so grotesque that what needs to be explained is how it could possibly have achieved any degree of respectability.”

–Cambridge University historian of science Colin Russell

“Just because science hasn’t explained something yet ...

I believe in science! Why do I need religion?!

I believe in science! Why do I need religion?!

I was amused to discover the following statement at an atheist website:

…I do believe that is why science will eventually do away with the need for religion. Our available information grows at astounding rates, even the most out of touch person today knows more about the world and the universe than the most intelligent of people 1,000 years ago. Science will only continue to expand while religion will only continue to recede. The need and usefulness of religion, not to ...
